Barossa Valley ‘Limited Release’ Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
This Barossa Valley Cabernet is absolutely superb! It is rich and full bodied with massive flavours of dark berry and ripe plum. The wine has spent 18 months maturing in brand new French oak. The oak is well balanced and sits nicely next to the smooth tannin structure. This is a top-class Cabernet.
Wine has been a way of life in the Barossa since 1842. The Barossa incorporates both Barossa Valley and Eden Valley, making it one of the only areas in Australia to have neighboring warm and cool climate growing conditions. There are some 750 grape growing families, many sixth generation, supplying quality grapes to more than 170 wine companies of all shapes and sizes.
The best wines of the Barossa sit comfortably alongside the great wines of the world. Barossa Shiraz and Eden Valley Riesling have led the way as regional heroes, with Cabernet Sauvignon, Mataro, Grenache, Viognier, Semillon and Tawny all contributing to the Barossa’s standing as one of the world’s great wine regions. With such a diversity of growing conditions and soil types across both valleys, and vineyards that have been tended by hand for many generations, you are bound to find a wine to call your own.
The producer of this awesome Barossa Valley ‘Limited Release’ Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 is a very small boutique producer that sells most of its premium fruit to Penfolds, St Hallets and Langmiel. The winery is now being operated by the third generation. They predominantly grow Shiraz from their Stonewell property, west of Tanunda in the Barossa Valley. They also have a small parcel of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes on the property which has been used to produce this awesome rich and full-bodied Cabernet which is sold retail for $50.00 per bottle and has spent 18 months in new French oak Barrels.
The soil in the vineyard has had many uses over the years with the site once being used for pear and apricot orchards and grazing but is now proving to be ideal for grapevines with a deep red clay below a well structured red-brown earth topsoil. Water is only applied on a needs basis therefore making the vine work hard and producing more intense flavours.
Only a small parcel of this Cabernet Sauvignon wine has been produced making it unique and deserving of the “boutique” tag.
Comments from Our Wine Buyer: We have been very lucky to get our hands on this very limited Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015. The region is renowned for producing top quality Shiraz however they can also do a Cabernet very well. This cabernet just oozes class and distinction with beautiful up-front aromas and flavours of deep plum and smoky tobacco. The wine has spent a phenomenal amount of time (18 months) in brand new French oak barrels to create a very smooth and rich Cabernet. The winery sells this wine for $50.00 per bottle. Our customers are getting a great bargain at $20.00 per bottle or $18.00 per dozen. My score 96/100 – WACC Trophy.
