About The Wine

This awesome unoaked Coonawarra Back Vintage Chardonnay 2008 was produced from 15-year-old vines from the Coonawarra region. The wine is vibrant and well textured with a lovely rich mouthfeel. The fruit has benefited from an extended ripening season of a cool climate region and exhibits lovely floral aromas. Being unwooded it is an easy drinking style however as it is an aged chardonnay it has developed rich and intense pineapple and melon flavours on the palate.

Comments from Wine Buyer Steve:

This is a good aged and unoaked Chardonnay. Because of its age the flavours of pineapple and melon are intense and rich. Its has developed a beautiful golden colour and is quite a complex and mature Chardonnay. I have rated this as an unoaked chardonnay very highly as I think the intense flavour profile deserves it.

My Score 94/100 WACC Gold Medal.

About The Producer and region:

Renowned for its high number of grape-producing wineries, Coonawarra is recognised as one of finest wine regions in Australia. The Coonawarra wine region is located just 60kms north of Mount Gambier. Coonawarra is rich in the bright coloured terra Rossa soil which, along with the limestone-rich soil and pure underground water, create the perfect conditions for vineyards in this area.

The Coonawarra Wine Region has several world-class red wine producing wineries, particularly known for their classic Cabernet Sauvignon. In total, there are 36 Coonawarra wineries and vineyards found in various beautiful locations around the area.

Most of the wineries and vineyards offer cellar door sales and wine tastings. There are plenty of wine tour operators that will take visitors door to door where many of these renowned wines can be sampled and purchased. In fact, wine tours to Coonawarra rank as one of the most popular tourist activities when visiting this region and therefore visitors will have no trouble booking a tour with one of the many operators servicing the area.

Visitors choosing to drive to Coonawarra will get an opportunity to see the gorgeous scenic views of the county and its surroundings. Many of the wineries also have onsite restaurants, where you can match local produce or food dishes with the quality house wines.

The producer of this magnificent aged Coonawarra Back Vintage Chardonnay 2008 put a lot of love into their winemaking and are a small family-owned boutique producer that handpicks the grapes and only produces small parcels each vintage.
