About the Wine:

This magnificent Frankland River Limited Cabernet Malbec 2013 is a fine-tuned blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (63%), Malbec (20%), Cabernet Franc (3.5%) and Petit Verdot (3.5%). The different parcels of fruit from some of the winery’s oldest vines, were fermented separately in small open fermenters. After maturation for 20 months in French Oak, it was blended to create the most complete wine, which reflects both the vineyard and the vintage.

About the Producer

The producer of this fantastic Frankland River Limited Release Cabernet Malbec 2013 is in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. They are one of WA’s largest family owned and operated wine producers. The current owners represent the third and fourth generation living and working on the in-Frankland River. It is this family’s love and commitment the Great Southern, as well as the unique combination of gravelly loam soils, warm sunny days and cool nights during the ripening season that produce grapes of intense varietal character and a sense of place. The winery is rated a perfect 5 Red Stars by James Halliday in his 2018 Wine Companion.

Comments from Wine Buyer Steve:

Wow!!! I could not believe our luck when we were offered a vary small parcel of this outstanding Frankland River Cabernet Malbec 2013 from one of our long-term suppliers. This wine one of their signature wines and it is superb! The wine is complex and earthy. Up front fruit flavours of small forest berries and a well-integrated oak component. This is a flagship Cabernet Malbec from Frankland River which is sold by the winery for $62.00 per bottle. This is truly a steal at $25.00 per bottle for our customers but be quick as if you blink it will be all gone.

My Score 97/100 WACC Trophy.

What is Cabernet Malbec:

Cabernet Malbec is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec grape varieties. Everyone knows Cabernet Sauvignon but not many people are that familiar with Malbec. The two varieties blended together create an awesome wine.Malbec was a relatively forgotten red wine variety in Australia until about a decade ago, but thanks to Argentina there is now a great deal of interest in the variety. The variety is certainly less common in Australia than it was a couple of decades ago, but there is some evidence that it may be making a comeback. Until the 1980s Malbec was used as blending material with Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz or both. The role of blending partner with Cabernet has been supplanted by Merlot. There has always been a few varietal Malbec’s around but the variety was fading away until the past decade when a few enthusiasts have been giving the variety more attention.
